Random Rant in E Minor*
Jul. 28th, 2006 01:27 pmSo... I'm watching TV some this morning. Flipping over to M2 since the program guide was mentioned a rock video program.
Here's me figuring, "Wow, they're taking a break from perpetual reruns of inane stunt shows and hip-hop related programming to play rock music? And full videos at that! What is this, 1988?"
Wrong, wrong. Should have known better.
Signs you're getting old: Random band name comes up. And they're being advertised on breaks for major concert like they're supposedly established. And you realize that you have never heard of the name before today. (Keep in mind, I still track music via online radio, on-air radio, despite the fact the Delaware Valley only has a couple of decent radio stations, and it's mostly the college stations at that, and so on.)
Also...WTF is with all these studio so-called bands dressing in tailored suits, black makeup, and showing videos with death and funeral themes while they scream lyrics? This is supposed to be that emo crap? At least goth music had some lyrical quality to it, and some class. This is just boo-hoo, 'poor rich kids who are bored, and want to rebel.' Not very imaginative at all.
Don't label it as rock, because it's just too pathetic, and not really rock music.'
*BTW, yes, title's a Bill Hicks ref, if you know of the late stand-up's great work, you get a cookie. :D
